Last Saturday, Hog Roast Old Bexley galloped into a summer derby, held on a nearby farm, ready to serve up delicious bites and soak in all the equestrian excitement! With show jumping, dressage, and flat racing on the agenda, we knew it was going to be a day of non-stop fun and thrills.
Our team arrived bright and early, eager to set up and start cooking some fantastic culinary creations. On the menu was our glorious hog, slow-roasted over real flames for several hours until it reached golden-brown perfection. The tempting aroma wafting through the air was utterly irresistible.
When it came time to serve, the tender, juicy pork, paired with crispy pork scratchings, savoury sage and onion stuffing, and a touch of applesauce, created a flavour explosion that had everyone swooning. The stuffing, infused with the pork’s juices, was particularly divine, adding a rich, mouth-watering depth to every bite.
On the side, we served mixed sweet potato and traditional fries, plus a variety of chilled salads, adding a refreshing twist to the hearty sandwiches. Meanwhile, for our meat-free friends, we whipped up grilled vegetable kebabs with optional halloumi, sweet chilli sauce, tzatziki dip, and flatbreads. These veggie delights were a crowd favourite, proving that deliciousness knows no dietary bounds.
The event itself was a vibrant tapestry of fun and excitement with hundreds of people attending, including dozens of families with children of all ages. The warm weather added to the atmosphere, making it a perfect day for outdoor activities. Kids ran around with painted faces, cheering on their favourite horses, while adults revelled in the thrilling equestrian displays.
Show jumping had everyone on the edge of their seats as horse and rider teams showcased incredible agility and coordination, while dressage brought a touch of elegance, with graceful routines that highlighted the deep bond between horse and rider. Flat racing was the day’s climax, with fast-paced action that had everyone cheering and gasping with excitement.
Throughout the day, Hog Roast Old Bexley’s stall remained a hotspot. Guests couldn’t get enough of our flavour-packed offerings, with many coming back for seconds and thirds! It was heart-warming to see so many smiling faces, enjoying our food and making memories together.
